About
Operation Hoodsie Cup is a new, innovative community policing program from the Boston Police Department that seeks to build trust between law enforcement and Boston youth by passing out free ice cream during the hot summer months. Starting July 22 and running through September 6, a custom Boston Police ice-cream truck will visit pre-determined Boston neighborhoods at various times as uniformed police officers hand out free Hoodsie Cups.
Mayor Thomas Menino and the Boston Police Department are dedicated to community policing. The police department strives every day to strengthen ties and build community trust with the residents whom it serves. The department recognizes the significance of cultivating police relations with local teens and fostering a good rapport so youth and police can work together to improve safety and reduce crime in all Boston neighborhoods. This latest initiative is just one of the many examples of how the BPD is connecting with local members of the community and demonstrating its commitment to community policing.
This program was made possible through a partnership between the Boston Police Department, Hill Holliday and HP Hood. Hill Holliday developed the concept and design for Operation Hoodsie Cup while Hood provided an ice-cream truck and donated the ice-cream cups that will be distributed.
